WELCOME TO SCHNABEL PSYCHOLOGY

If you have been referred for a psychological or neuropsychological assessment, you may be wondering what the appointment will involve and what will be expected of you. I hope this website will answer many of your questions and help you approach the assessment with greater confidence.

I also provide psychological treatment and rehabilitation for people adjusting to injury, illness, emotional difficulties, or significant changes in their lives.

Assessment

An assessment can help clarify cognitive functioning, emotional wellbeing, rehabilitation needs, work-related capacity, or other questions raised by you and your referrer. I will explain the process clearly and approach the assessment independently and fairly.

Treatment and Rehabiliation

Psychological treatment can help you manage distress, develop practical coping strategies, rebuild confidence, and return to meaningful activities and roles. My approach is active, practical, and strategy-based.

What to Expect

Most assessments begin with a conversation about your background and current circumstances. Depending on the referral question, the appointment may also include questionnaires or structured cognitive tasks.

I will explain the process at the beginning, and you can ask questions at any point. Breaks can be taken when needed, particularly if you experience pain, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, or emotional distress.

You do not need to study or practise beforehand. The most helpful preparation is simply to attend as you are. Bring your glasses, if you usually wear them. A support person is welcome to attend.

EXPERIENCE AND INDEPENDENCE

I trained in psychology at the Universities of Vienna and Berlin and completed my PhD at the University of Auckland. I have extensive experience in clinical psychology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation, research, and independent assessment.

When undertaking an assessment, I work as an independent clinician. My responsibility is to provide a balanced professional opinion based on the available information and the findings of the assessment.
